Accuracy is a process, not a claim
Every report published by is fact-checked before publication. Despite our best efforts, errors can occur. When they do, we correct the record clearly rather than silently amend it.
All articles are reviewed for factual accuracy, spelling of names, dates, titles and institutional affiliations before publication.
Contributors are responsible for the accuracy of their own reporting and must disclose any uncertainty or unattributed information.
We publish corrections regardless of who identifies the error — a reader, a source, another journalist or our own staff.
We do not quietly edit published stories. Any material change is labelled with a dated correction or clarification note.
How corrections are handled
The four kinds of correction we make
Corrections
Factual errors are corrected as soon as they are verified, with a clear note attached to the article describing what was changed and why.
Clarifications
When reporting was technically accurate but could be misunderstood, we add a clarification to provide necessary context or precision.
Updates
Developing stories are updated as new verified information emerges. Significant changes are noted on the page so readers can follow the evolution.
Retractions
In rare cases where a story is fundamentally flawed, we issue a retraction rather than a correction, removing or replacing the piece and explaining the decision.

What to expect after you report an error
We treat every correction request seriously. Time-sensitive errors are prioritised. If we cannot verify a claim, we will explain why rather than ignore it.
Acknowledgement
We confirm receipt of every correction request and begin reviewing it.
Verification
We check the claim against our original reporting, sources and any supporting evidence supplied.
Correction published
Confirmed corrections are published promptly, with a dated note appended to the article.
Complex investigations
Stories involving multiple sources, legal review or translation may take longer; we keep the requester informed.
