Our commitment
We believe access to culture and to the reporting around it is a right, not a privilege. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the internationally recognised standard referenced by laws including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508 and the European Accessibility Act. Accessibility is an ongoing effort, and we continually work to raise the standard of the experience across the site.
What we do
Readable by design
We maintain strong colour contrast, scalable text, clear typography and a responsive layout so our journalism stays legible across devices and at increased zoom levels.
Keyboard and assistive technology
The site is built to be navigable by keyboard alone, with visible focus states, semantic landmarks and ARIA labelling so screen readers can move through content in a logical order.
Media and images
We provide descriptive alternative text for meaningful images and caption or describe embedded media where practical, so information is not conveyed by visuals alone.
Ongoing testing
Accessibility is part of how we build and review the site. We test with automated tooling and manual checks, and we treat accessibility defects as issues to fix, not optional polish.
Known limitations
Some older archived content and third-party embedded material — such as external video players or interactive maps — may not yet fully meet our target standard, because parts of it are controlled by other providers. Where we identify a barrier, we prioritise a fix or offer an accessible alternative on request.
Report a barrier
If you encounter any difficulty using this site, or need content in an alternative format, please tell us. We treat accessibility reports as a priority and will acknowledge your message and work with you toward a resolution.
